ICE launches workplace immigration crackdown
(AP:WASHINGTON) The Obama administration launched investigations of hundreds of businesses around the country Wednesday as part of its strategy to focus immigration enforcement on the employers who hire illegal workers. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has begun notifying businesses of plans to audit their I-9 forms _ employment eligibility documents that employers fill out for every worker _ the agency told members of Congress in an e-mail Wednesday. Immigration officers served "Notices of Inspection" to 625 businesses, the Homeland Security Department said. By comparison, 503 such notices were issued to businesses last year, the agency said. Employers are required to keep the I-9 forms and must check the authenticity of documents provided by the employee. The Homeland Security Department said it would not release the names or locations of the businesses that are being audited because of the ongoing investigations.

this is just another dog and pony show...the real show is this:

See America, my administration is cracking down on the employers, now let's pass that shamnesty for the illegals who were just seeking a better live...after all illegal aliens can achieve great things...look at me...I'm your leader...

I'll believe it when I see photos showing the scumbag employers in cuffs and then seeing them sentenced to maximum terms as prescribed by law including huge fines for each illegal they hired, otherwise its a crock of you know what and just a means to his end of giving illegals a pathway to citizenship and a huge voting block to keep the dimocraps in power....

No I am sorry Janet. This won't do at all. Captain Kenya and Mrs. Let Them Be can't get any points for dancing around the issue of illegal hireing with this I9 check, No. We all know that most illegals are either off the books altogether or misclassified as subcontractors thanks to the Labor Department; no I9s necessary. The only way to get points is to inspect the operations and see who is doing the work. It is going to happen that someone posing as a Hispanic is going to blow something up and Ms. Let Them Hire Them and Fire You Napolitano is going to need her spin ability that she is practicing here.

Obama is doing his thing. He goes where he can't be criticized -- employers of illegals and lets the illegals take care of themselves. If they can shift around and steal new jobs before the amnesty occurs, good enough for him. If they can't, he won't care.

We need thousands of businesses to be investigated, but this might make a lot of employers shed the illegals in fear the feds will come to them.

Also, this will generate tons of boohoo stories. With them he can measure if his political interests really lies with the law or if the American public softens and wants to give these illegals citizenship.

In Reply to Gorilla: Of course it is, I just hope people see it the way we do.

In Reply to conservative1: Obama doesn't want anyone to get caught breaking our immigration laws.

It's a ploy for liberal press coverage - "See what I'm doing, cracking-down on businesses that hire these future Americans. Ain't I great? I'm the great Messiah these 'Illegal Aliens' have been praying for. Vote for me in 2012."

Espanol gracias a mi companeros (Thanks my fellow comrades)

I got it, the next time you go deer hunting, throw firecrackers into the woods first and warn every one of them. Who do they think they're kidding? Sent notices that they're going to be investigated...puke
