Feds: American Apparel Hires Illegal Workers
American Apparel(APP Quote) touts its patriotism, boasting that it produces all of its clothes on American shores. This shouldn't do much to help that campaign: The U.S. government said today that the t-shirt maker is employing about 1,800 illegal immigrants. The disclosure came as a result of an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Of the 1,800 workers identified, 1,600 were deemed to be unauthorized to work, while officials were unable to verify the status of the other 200. American Apparel said if the workers are unable to provide proof of eligibility, they will be forced to leave the company.

Here's my email to American Apparel:

What a laugh -- you say you're not a sweat shop -- but you hire illegal aliens to do your work! You're worse than a sweat shop -- you're a thief that steals jobs from Americans and gives them to people who have no right to be in this nation, let alone working a job.

I will never buy your products now that I've learned about your hiring practices and your sniveling justification that you hire illegals because they are in a bad spot. They should be in a bad spot -- they are here breaking the law every day.

I urge American Apparel to live its ideals -- take the doors off your factories and see how long it will be before you agree that controlling access is a good concept. What's good for your company's security and prosperity is good for the nation's.

Hi all,

A radio show recently had a speaker saying American Apparell is a Buy American company and people have no issue paying $20 for a t-shirt they know is made in America by Americans. I called the station to let them know they hire illegal aliens. I also sent this e-mail to American Apparell. I thought the response was quite amusing. Seems like they are now using the poor plight of the immigrants as their excuse for breaking the law.

Go to their Web site and send an e-mail letting them know they are a sham and lie to their customers. Here's the e-mail and response:

"Hi Ellen, Thanks for your feedback. We do hire American. I'm American. The person next to me is also American. We abided by the terrible immigration laws we have in place and had to let go of 1800 of our workers due to the fact they could not provide valid documentation. Hiring American isn't the answer. While it may benefit some it won't help us all. The answer is immigration reform. "

On Wednesday, October 14, 2009 1:09 PM (Pacific Time) you submitted the following feedback to American Apparel:

No matter how you try to jump on the "Buy American" bandwagon, you hire illegal workers and not Americans. That's because it's cheap for you - but not for the workers of this country.

Your company is a sham and a lie. I wouldn't buy your products ever - particularly now that you defend your breaking of the law by advocating for illegal immigrants. How transparent can you be?

What kind of profit are you making on $20 t-shirts that you claim are worth it because you make them in America? I might as well buy them at Wal-Mart for less because you are just as unprincipled.

Don't ask unemployed American workers to support your advocacy of illegal immigration to defend your fake "Buy American" product. Hire Americans and walk and talk the truth.

I went to keepitamerican.biz and suggested they put this company on their "thumbs down" list. They are missing a ton of listings that I know of, but it can't hurt to try and get them to ad this company.

soon they will all get the message
American Jobs are not for them

This is just another case of a company turning itself in to rid itself of excess workers without paying unemployment insurance premium on those workers. The State and The Feds are complicite in the hiring, the working, and the firing. I guess working for the criminal organization called Government is good work if you can get it.

How could any business hire 1,800 "Illegal Immigrants" without knowing they were "Illegal Immigrants"?

The owners of American Apparel should join Bernard Madoff for the next 150 years.

Give the "Illegal Immigrants" a one way ticket to their country of origin. Let the scumbags pay for their own return ticket back to the U.S.
From True Blue - 01 Jul 2009 @ 12:46 pm
That seems to be the largest number yet...I wonder what penalties the owners of this business will face for hiring that many illegals. Probably a slap on the wrist and a fine. They walk away from the crime and so do the illegals. It's disgusting noway .
