Honda Introduces Bill to Unite Immigrant Families
Washington DC - Today, Rep. Mike Honda (D-CA) introduced the "Reuniting Families Act," which would give green card holders the same rights as citizens to bring their spouses and children to the US. The bill aims to provide greater stability to legal immigrant families, and is being viewed by many as an attempt to lay the groundwork for more ambitious immigration reforms later this year. In a statement, Rep. Honda said "Our family-based immigration system has not been updated in 20 years, separating spouses, children and their parents, who have played by the rules, for years, often decades. Our proposed legislation is in line with both American family values and with our short-term need to grow our economy and save taxpayer money."

Illegal aliens are NOT doing work Americans won't do. What jobs won't Americans do? In most states, Americans still clean their own houses, do their own landscaping, clean hotel rooms, work in restaurants and fast food places, paint houses, DO CONSTRUCTION WORK, work in airports, etc. - just like we have the past 200 years before "our" government allowed these people to invade our country. There are millions of out-of-work Americans, so illegal aliens who are coming here to work do so are peril to American workers. Illegal aliens absolutely do not contribute more than they cost. Certainly the millions in prison and on welfare aren't contributing a dime to our economy, and the ones who are working often are paid in cash with no deductions for taxes at all. The ones who use fraudulent social security numbers and qualify to pay taxes and social security have so many deductions for dependents that they pay little if any taxes. Some of them pay less than $100 in taxes and get back $4,000 refunds (thanks to earned income tax credits and multiple dependents). The Center for Immigration Studies estimates that the average Mexican illegal alien costs U.S. taxpayers a whopping $55,000 each. Some bargain, right? Our economy does NOT depend on illegal aliens. Sure, greedy CEOs (making $50 to $150 MILLION a year) and business owners depend on illegal aliens, but the only thing illegal aliens are contributing to is the collapse of our economy and making the rich richer. Without illegal aliens, the price of agricultural products and other goods and services will NOT soar. Consumers are NOT benefiting from lower labor costs. Again, it's CEOs and business owners who benefit from taxpayer subsidies for their illegal alien workers. Anybody notice the price of new cars spiraling downward under NAFTA? Now, look at the trouble they are in.

In Reply to wellexcuseme: This is just an example of what is happening across the country, wherever there is a high influx of illegals...Chicago is another tax strapped city. Irresponsible illegals have dropped the burden of their American-born children's care, feeding and education into the laps of taxpayers. How are we expected to support our families in a manner that they deserve, and take on the onus of illegals' far too many children? Taxes keep getting levied, and the end result is less in our pockets. Personal responsiblity is not illegals' strong suit, but why should we pay the price for their foibles?
From Anonyma - 09 Jun 2009 @ 02:11 pm
In Reply to wellexcuseme: The system is fine and only needs to be enforced.

Who do you think picked the crops before the illegal aliens came here and depressed wages? Americans picked them. Do you really think no foods were harvested before the illegals arrived? And Americans will pick the harvests again if we can deport the illegals -- and, no, it won't raise the price of food sky high. The cost of harvesting is a tiny part of retail food prices.

In Reply to wellexcuseme: No $hit, Sherlock....that is just a tiny bit of info concerning the cost illegals pose to this country. Just multiply it many, many times over and surely even you can see that they pose a colossal deficit for this country. We have done our homework, have you?

In Reply to wellexcuseme: Not the American Indian argument -- that is so worn out. The American Indians are not native to this land and there is evidence that they displaced at least one group of people that arrived here before us. Also, American Indians were not a united and cohesive civilization, but a competing (and, yes, sometimes co-operating) group of distinctive tribes. There is no parallel between them and the current nation.

In Reply to wellexcuseme: 3% of Illegal Aliens Do Low-Paid Stoop Agricultural Labor;
the Remaining 97% Take Jobs That Americans Want and Need

97% of 12 to 20 million illegal aliens are working in construction, hospitality, manufacturing, restaurant, administrative and service jobs. Ask yourself this, are these jobs that Americans will not do? You know darned well that they WILL.

28% of prisoners in federal prisons are illegal aliens, according the United States Justice Department. Not all of those 12 to 20 million illegal aliens have come to America to work. Some have come to commit crimes.

If illegals were given amnesty, they still would be working low paying jobs, having minimal taxes deducted, while claiming far too many dependents. The cost of retirement benefits for amnesty recipients will be very large, and the net cost to taxpayers of retirement benefits for amnesty recipients is likely to be at least $2.6 trillion. They will benefit nobody but themselves.

First, Green Card holders are not illegal immigrants. Second, if the present restrictive rules were put into effect by the American Indians when our parents came to our great country, none of us would be here. The system is broken and must be fixed. In addition, I don't see American citizens lined up for seasonal agricultural jobs so Third, we need more taxpayers above board to pay for the bailouts resently enacted.
From ImmigrantsAreNotIllegals - 05 Jun 2009 @ 11:32 am
That's quite amusing, because last I checked on the State Department's site, green card holders petitions for their children of all ages are processed at a MUCH faster pace than those of American citizens... they also have a higher quota than that of American citizens, so before they talk about giving same rights to permanent residents, perhaps they should allocate similar quotas for American citizens first.

If your concerned about the passage of the proposed Senate bill S.1085 and the House Bill H.Rep.267 you should look at the Text Of Legislation on the congressional Thomas Web-site for both bills.

S.1085 - The Immigration and Nationality Act
H.Rep. - The Reconzing to Iranian-Americans contributions.

I'm not sure about the connection between the two bills.
From Anonyma - 05 Jun 2009 @ 08:32 am
Yes, let's have the green card holders leave the U.S. if they are so desperate to see their families. You know what will happen -- the families come here and mama drops an anchor-jackpot baby asap.

Blind as a bat. They do not save taxpayer money. Hay dude "Rep. Mike Honda (D-CA)", California is broke! As cudzuqueen said unite them in their country of origin. Does this Rep. understand what unemployed citizen means. noway angry
