COLUMBUS, N.M. (AP) - The Border Patrol credits fencing in southern Luna County and more agents for a significant drop in undocumented immigrants caught in the county. U.S. Customs and Border Protection says apprehensions of immigrants decreased about 67% when the fence was completed along the border at Santa Teresa. Two phases were finished in May. The agency also says that after a pedestrian fence went in near the Columbus port of entry, apprehensions within that 6-mile corridor dropped more than 60% from 2007 to 2008. It says no narcotics were seized in the corridor at all during the period.

In Reply to tiredofit: For those who don't have time to read the entire article, here is the gist:
"CASEY WIAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): LOU DOBBS TONIGHT reported in August that Roe Ramirez (ph), Mexico's drug czar had resigned abruptly after 20 months on the job. Apparently now, we know why. Ramirez (ph) was arrested Thursday night by the Mexican government on suspicion that he was on the payroll of Mexican drug cartels. Accepting bribes of nearly $500,000 a month while running SIEDO, Mexico's anti organized crime unit."
Why should we cooperate any further with Mexico in their "drug war?" That country is out of control. We need to fence it off from our territory.

Everywhere the fence has been constructed like the Secure Fence Act required it has been effective at slowing them down. The current problem is that the fence hasn't been built in many areas the way it was supposed to be. In others it is missing entirely. Glenn Spencer has been on top of this from the beginning and has exposed the DHS lies. In some areas DHS has put vehicle barriers where there is abundant foot traffic and in others where no pedestrian traffic exists they have built fences. In some areas DHS counts the barrier the National Guard built out of RR pieces as part of the fence. The original Act before Hutchinson screwed with it called for a double layer fence.
The fence is only one part of a secure border plan. You have to have boots on the ground to apprehend those that are crossing. The fence slows them down, but if no one is there to catch them it is worthless. The only way a barrier would be effective by itself is if it was electrified or the area was mined.
Glenn as well as other MM have repeatedly reported illegal aliens crossing the border to the BP and had no response. The illegals cross with impunity. Of course this most often happens where there is no fence.
It will be interesting to see what impact the fence that is being completed along Spencer's ranch has. His ABP group has cameras at several locations along the border. Operation Vigilance I think it is called, has volunteers across the country that watch the border using the internet.

In Reply to cudzuqueen: The fence did make them go to more trouble at least. Have you seen the new x-ray machine for vehicles? You drive your car through it and it shows the illegal alien work thieves tucked here and there in the car. We need about 25 of these at every border crossing. The parasites are still coming. How many more will drop anchor baby on us?
