| POSTVILLE - The consul general from Guatemala arrived at St. Bridget's Catholic Church late Thursday afternoon, after spending two days in Waterloo to make sure that Guatemalan citizens were being treated humanely and to confirm which of the detainees are Guatemalan. "I was able to verify everything myself," said Gustavo Lopez of Chicago, one of 11 Guatemalan consul generals in the United States. He said he's been assured by Scott Baniecke, field director for Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Minneapolis, that there will be no more raids in the immediate future. Lopez said he's going to tell that to the people holed up in the church, afraid to go home. |
