POSTVILLE --- Members of Iowa's congressional delegation are questioning whether federal immigration officials should start looking at penalizing Agriprocessors after more than a third of its work force was arrested during a raid Monday. U.S. Congressman Bruce Braley of Waterloo wrote a letter to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which conducted Monday's raids, urging them to "fully investigate" Agriprocessors for possible immigration law violations. The raid --- called the largest of its kind in the nation --- netted 390 arrests, or about 40 percent of the work force. "This figure alone raises questions about Agriprocessors' commitment to making sure they have a legal work force," Braley wrote.

Iowa and ICE/Fed should prosecute the employers who most assuredly KNEW they were hiring illegals and make an example out of these employers. Wishful thinking.....

Iowa has not been in this fight to speak of, ever. Suddenly we see them couming out of the wood work, and boy are they welcome to the battle.
Remember when we gave up on the small one family farm? We gave that up because the large farms were more economical. Suddenly there are very few small farms.. 180 achers is simply not possiable today.
But the economical large farms? Suddenly they are getting multi million dollar subsidies, and are demanding illegal aliens to do the work on those farm. Those small farms we abondoned were the mainstays of our society in many ways. The first people to land at Normandy.. and die in massive numbers, were those hayseeds from Iowa, Texas and all the rest.
We no longer control Congress. Big business puts up the money, and gets them elected. It is nice Iowa has come awake, but we need a national ballot iniative that will move the power of Congress back down to the people. I don't know, but I think we better do that soon too.
