Aspen Skiing Co. gets creative to find help
ASPEN -- The Aspen Skiing Co.'s quest to find enough workers this winter led recruiters to Puerto Rico, among other places. The company hired about 20 workers from the Caribbean island this fall to work in various positions at its two lodging properties, The Little Nell hotel and Snowmass Lodge and Club, according to Skico spokesman Jeff Hanle. The Skico was forced to get creative this year when there was a snafu at the national level with the H-2B visa program for temporary guest workers. An exemption to the program expired Sept. 30, after Congress failed to address comprehensive immigration reform.

In the mid 70s I lived in Glenwood Springs, CO. The ski resorts used to recruit students and local town’s people to clean rooms and work at the lodges on the weekends when they were the busiest, and they paid well. The lodges would send buses to pick up these workers and those busses were always packed with Americans willing to make some extra cash. When they say they can’t find enough workers, they lie.

WOW ! ! I bet they don't pay them $4.00 an hour. Those greedy S.O.B's. This shit will never stop ! When will Americans finally have enough of this bullshit ? I'm thinking probably never !

In Reply to tickedoffchic: I realized that after I posted it...they could have used locals...nobody can tell me there aren't any there who'd be willing to do the jobs for reasonable pay.

They did hire Americans, Cudz. Just poor Puerto Rican Americans they are able to control and exploit.
From cudzuqueen - 15 Dec 2007 @ 04:15 am
What's wrong with hiring Americans? I'm so sick of these cheap and greedy employers.
