Are immigration laws backfiring? A new study says yes
Gainesville, Fla. - According to a study just released by the University of Florida, laws designed to discourage immigration, might be backfiring. Border Security and other Homeland Security laws have been much tighter since September 11th, and because of that, people in the U.S. illegally are thinking twice before leaving, for fear they won't get back in. The study also reveals illegal immigrants are finding creative ways to get driver's licenses or other state issued ID's.

In Reply to ohwellII: I agree. I don't get the sense that many are returning voluntarily -- and those who are probably have plans to come back as soon as the economy improves.

They will just run from state to state like roaches. The ones who "own" property will sell it and use the $ to fund their running. The states will one-by-one pass the Oklahoma law, but not before a number of Anchors are born and communities ruined by the sudden arrival of the third-world ticks. puke

If we did not have the real I.D. coming down the line, that could be considered the case. But with the Real I.D., the illegal aliens are going to have to plant an I.D. in a Court House someplace and then accesses it to prove they are citizens.

No.. they are not returning voluntarily. The President refuses to get up and tell the illegal aliens that if they do simply return home, they will be able to sell their property, and return home with a chance to come back when they apply. If they don't go home voluntarily, their property will be seized, and they will return with a felony record.

Keep in mind that no one can stay in this country without some form of I.D. for any extended period of time. If they have been here for two years.. they more than likely have fake I.D.s.

The Feds let this slide every day of Mr. Clinton's and MOST of Mr. Bush's Presidency. This ole' job is going to be big and take a while. But they will go back.

Finally, keep in mind also that we are fighting big business, the lobby groups they have, the Catholic Church and the lobby groups they have, and finally, the Mexican Government and the lobby groups they all have. Those guys lie a very great deal, so we are not doing badly at all.

"So, in the past, your daughter was here for a couple of years and her mother came and visited. Now, the mother can't get a tourist visa, so what it's doing is it's separating families for long periods of time,"

crying Annie Cumpston, A US Citizen Age 6 was separated from her family not by choice and not for a year or two years but eternally by Guillermo Diaz, a Mexican National in the US illegally for 4 years. He killed Annie when he ran over her with his truck, if Diaz wasn’t in the United States Annie would not have been killed. How many U.S. children have to die before you and people like you get the message? The next time you write a story like this,Maxine L. Margolis, think of Annie and her family and all the American families that have been separated and otherwise destroyed by Illegals living in this country.

You can read a longer discussion of the contents here. The gist seems to be that it is wrong not to allow illegals to travel back and forth from their legal country to the United States once they've gotten a foothold here.

Here's a choice paragraph about how they get driver's licenses:

"Margolis’ study also revealed immigrants developing schemes to circumvent the requirements for driver’s licenses. Typically, Brazilian immigrants in the Northeast load up in minivans and drive to states such as Delaware, Virginia and North Carolina, which do not require a green card or valid Social Security card for a license, but some have traveled as far as the West Coast, she said."

We surely wouldn't want to inconvenience fine people like this, would we?

"people in the U.S. illegally are thinking twice before leaving, for fear they won't get back in" ???
am in the only one who thinks this is BS?
a) they should f*cking leave because they shouldn't be here to begin with!
b) why the hell should we feel bad for them because they cant come and go as they please? thems the breaks! i know so many illegal bean dips who would go back and forth to mexihole blatantly for holidays etc even pulling their kids from school for weeks and months at a time, coming and going like they owned the place. waaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

Backfiring, they wish. Cry, cry, cry.
("separating families for long periods ")
They are separating family themselves.
("So, in the past, your daughter was here for a couple of years and her mother came and visited")
Ya, right. And never went back home or they drop a anchor while here visiting.
