ACLU Applauds Repeal of Anti-Immigrant Ordinance in Riverside, NJ
RIVERSIDE, NJ - The American Civil Liberties Union praised Riverside's township council vote tonight to repeal an unlawful ordinance that would have punished landlords and employers for renting to or employing individuals it classified as "illegal" immigrants. Tonight's vote was prompted by a lawsuit brought by a coalition of residents, businesses and landlords represented by the ACLU, the ACLU of New Jersey, the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund, the People For the American Way Foundation, and the law firm of Ragonese, Albano & Viola. "We commend Riverside for repealing this wrong-headed law," said Ed Barocas, Legal Director at the ACLU of New Jersey. "In addition to being illegal, the passage of this ordinance promoted distrust of immigrants - including those here legally - and fueled xenophobia and discrimination."

In Reply to Red-bloodedAmerican: The senate needs to reconvene the Comission on UnAmerican Activities......But then they would have to start by investigating themselves,.............So many politicians comitting acts that are by definition treason, particularly during wartime. Aiding and providing comfort to the enemy, failing to enforce the laws(illigal immigration and otherwise) of this country, leaving our borders undefended , selling our country piece by piece to foreign investors......the list goes on and onangry angry angry

In Reply to fredrickson: Yes, please do. It's all about lawyers these days and we need some of our own.

In Reply to ratrider: Good point to bring up! Why isn't the media covering this?? Need to question this more! The gov't is turning a blind eye hoping that nobody has noticed. ACLU needs to foot its own bills...clap

Appeasement didn't work when England tried it with Hitler prior to World War II and it won't work here.

Riverside, NJ has just pressed the self-destruct button for their town.

If any of their citizens are killed by illegals I hope they direct their anger towards the town council AND I hope they sue them for culpability!

I look forward to the days of reading the headlines saying another ACLU office has been raided and all employees shot or hanged for treason.

In Reply to ratrider: No organization is without vulnerability. I do not expect the government to do anything against the ACLU. On the contrary I think they will use them to keep us at bay. I think to fight legal bastards we need some legal bastards of our own to give em a run for their money. There are so many that hate the ACLU at this point that I think if we centralized our efforts we would find great success. I will research this and see if any organization is worthy of support in this battle.

In Reply to fredrickson: Based on what the aclu chooses to involve themselves they need to be cut of from ALL govt (your tax dollars) funding. They make HUGE profits when they attack communities, school districts, boy scouts and patriotic organizations.(They are demanding 2.3 million from Hazelton for ACLU legal expenses). They have recently been severed from profiting from law suites in religious mattes and the assaults on our religious (christian!) values have stopped.
If they have to put their own money on the line I believe their constant hammering on American Values will stop.
Or they could just be declared a domestic terrorist organisation all be jailed! (My preference!)

Barocas, Katz, and Jadwat, lawyers in the case include Andrew Viola and Michael Albano of Ragonese, Albano & Viola; Foster Maer and Jackson Chin of PRLDEF; Reggie Mitchell of People for the American Way; and Lucas Guttentag, Lee Gelernt, and Jennifer Chang of the ACLU Immigrants’ Rights Project.
This group of scum are responsible for overturning the will of the citizens of this community. Is this why their parents
paid their way through law school? New Jersey has already become a become unfit for human habitation and this decision by the sissified council of riverside will raise the level of the sewage some more! You deserve the politicians you elect! Hope you can swim!

Starting to think it is time that we organize our own fund. We are a majority perhaps if had a "superfund" we could put these beaners back in their place south of the border.

They just have shown illegals how sissified they are. Now the stinking illegals thinks they own this town and watch to see how fast the residents start to leave. Then end result will be a crime infested barrio. Riverside, NJ will become yet another boil on America's arse.
